As many of you know, I organized the Knitflix swap. As a group, we just finished up sending and receiving our fun film and fiber packages! As part of the swap, we held a contest. We wanted to see who had the best pairing of film and fiber. The mission was to take a picture of the goodies to be sent and email it to me along with an explanation as to how the yarn and goodies matched the movie. The grand prize is a Gettin' Knit Together kit from Purl Needlemeyer. Purl and I have narrowed it down to the final three finalists. Now we need your help. It does not matter if you were not part of the swap, we need your vote for what you think is the best themed package. Click on the image to see a bigger picture.
Contestant #1: Te's Black and White Movie Box featuring Casablanca
Te says: "
The contents of the "Black and White Movie Box" include:
- 3 skeins o
f black, white (and gray) sock yarn. One skein is hidden in the back of the pile.
- a package of black and a package of white M&Ms.
- a box of "Black and White" popcorn (sweet).
- a pair of black sunglasses (because ever starlet needs a good pair of shades).
- a black and white box of tissue. This is a tear jerker of a movie.
- the black and white classic movie, "Casablanca".
- a clapboard tray (mostly in black and white).
- a card (with the words "And the winner is..." written in black ink on the white envelope). The card itself has a silver star (for the silver screen don't you know).
- there is also white tissue paper and black streamer-like confetti filling the box (you can sort of see it in the picture)."
Contestant
#2: Karen's Bride and Prejudice
Karen says: "Film: Bride & Prejudice
Yarn: Sari silk
Bride & Prejudice is a Bollywood take on Pride and Prejudice, and the
characters wear a lot of saris, thus the silk. There's chai tea, made
with spices normally found in Indian food. Coconut lotion, also
something used frequently in Indian food. And beads, which sometimes
adorn the saris."
Contestant #3: Rebecca's Aussie Themed Package
Rebecca
says: "Explanation for goody package: After getting Olga's movie wishlist I saw that she wanted to see RABBIT PROOF FENCE. It's an Australian movie and since I'm Australian I suddenly had a perfect package planned out. To go with the movie I sent her a bunch of yummy Australian goodies - Cadbury's chocolate, a Tim Tam Bar (a big favorite back home), some Australian lollies (a.k.a. candy) and some Vegemite. I also made her a little tote bag to carry as well. The material, although not exactly the same, reminded me a little bit of Aboriginal art (little dots form images) and this was perfect because the movie dealt with how Aboriginal children were taken from their parents in order to raise them 'white.'"
Please leave your vote in the comments to this post! I'll be collecting votes until Sunday night, midnight PST.

I vote for the second one! :)

I vote for #1 - the black and white package!

These are all so clever! I'm voting for the Bride and Prejudice package. I must admit that the inclusion of a b&w box of kleenex made option 1 awfully attractive, and I LOVE the handmade bag included in option 3.
You three all deserve prizes :-)

I'm biased, being the recipient of number 3, but I have to vote for number 3! It was just such a great idea and I loved everything Rebecca included.

I vote for #1, Black & White, because I love M&Ms, and I didn't even know they came in black and white, and because it has *sock* yarn, and the whole pacakge it totallly cool.

Aw man, how can I compete with that black & white theme?!? My vote is for #1.
Posted by: Karen | October 10, 2006 at 09:37 AM
We have some clever knitters in this contest! They are all really good, but since I have to chose just one, I'd go with the black and white package.

#2 - Karen - so exotic!

They're all great, but I vote for #2, just because of the inspired use of sari silk with Bride and Prejudice.

I just wanted to thank you for organizing such a fun swap! You're great!
With that said, I like all three finalists, but #1 seems the best.

I think this is an awesome idea! I'll look for round 2 to participate in...
I vote for Rebecca, #3, and not just because she is my ISE pal, but also because she put so much thought into the authenticity of her box!
