Knitflix Swap
Ok! So I've determined that there is interest out there! Yay! I think this swap will be fun. Here are the official swap rules!
1) Sign-ups officially start today, August 2 and will end on midnight PST Wednesday, August 16th. To sign up please send an email to craftylilly AT hotmail DOT com. In your email include the following: your name, the email address you'd like to use for the swap, your blog URL, and whether you want to swap a DVD or VHS or don't care.
2) This swap is not set up as a secret pal exchange. Therefore, there is no need for an anonymous address. Furthermore, swap partners will be set up using the model of the Project Spectrum postcard and yarn swap. What this means is that the person you are preparing a package for, will be preparing a package for you.
3) What will be swapped?
a) A movie that your partner will enjoy. This could be one that is requested or one that you like that you think your partner will like as well. You have the choice of swapping a VHS or DVD. I will try to pair VHS people together and DVD people together. Regardless of the movie format, the film should be new or bought used from places like Blockbuster or Netflix. If you buy a film used, please check to make sure the film is in good working order. Blockbuster and Netflix will exchange damaged used DVDs within a certain time frame.
b) Supplies to make a good movie night. This could be candy, microwaveable popcorn, etc.
c) A small fiber related goody such as a pattern, or sock yarn, or a skein of laceweight, or a couple skeins of something to make a hat or scarf, or a knitting/crochet notion.
4) I will email participants their partners by August 31st. Once you receive your partner's name and email address, you will need to email your partner and get his/her address, and movie/candy/fiber preferences. I will post a questionnaire for you to use at the end of the month. Edited to add, swap packages should be in the mail by October 1st.
5) This swap is open to knitters and crocheters. Edited to add: After a question from a participant about DVD encoding, I've done a bit of research. It turns out that opening this swap to people outside the US will be difficult as DVD's are encoded for different reasons. Therefore, I've had to amend my rules. This swap will now be limited to the U.S. and Canada. I'm sorry about this! Luckily, all people who have officially signed up live in North America.
I think I've c
overed everything! Once I start getting official sign-ups, I will begin a list on my sidebar of participants. I've created a blog button for participants to use. Please save it to your computer. If anyone wants to create another button, please do! You can email it to me at the same adress used for sign-ups, and I will post it. If you contacted me yesterday, please sign up formally. I will try to contact as many of you as I can, but if I don't, or you're just excited, go ahead and sign up before you hear from me.

I just had a thought - if someone who is deaf was interested in this swap, would there be a way to make sure the person swapping would send a subtitled or captioned film?

You are brave AND creative, taking on managing this! This is a good one, but am on the wagon; no swaps for a bit till I catch myself up with what I got going right now!

Thanks Jennifer! This is a great idea!

Great idea, have fun with it. I'm going on the wagon off swaps for awhile too, as fun as they are. Like Birdsong, I've got to finish some projects in my ever growing WIP pile.However...if you decide to do a book-on-CD swap let me know ;)

I'm a virgin swapper, but being a film-o-phile, I'll give it a try. How about a prize for the best film and fiber combination??

Oh do sign me up. There's nothing better than watching a movie and knitting up a sock.

I would love to sign up! I haven't seen anything recent so this might be the best way to get back in touch:)
